What are the top hair loss questions?

There are many frequently asked questions that are usually asked for hair loss.
Here is a few questions and the answers to your questions.

Q: Does too much washing or frequent combing cause hair loss?
A: Most people notice lost hair when in the shower or in their comb. This is a temporary physiological hair loss. Usually, these are hairs that are near the end of normal telogen phase, and losing up to 100 hairs per day is normal. Frequent combing and shampooing usually does not cause hair loss.

Q: Does wearing a hat cause hair loss?
A: If the hat is too tight and it is used too often, it can cause hair loss by rubbing against the scalp. Tight hats or a helmet can cause mechanical trauma from outside but they don’t interfere with oxygen or blood circulation to the follicles. If the hat is loose and used occasionally, it should not be a problem.

Q: Does shaving the head reduce hair loss?
A: Hair follicles are about 1/4 of an inch deep into the skin. Shaving will cut the shaft of the hair at the surface and has no patho-physiological effect on hair growth or hair loss. However, if the hair has been damaged due to chemicals, diseases, chemo or radiation therapy, shaving may help psychologically until the underlying problems are resolved.

Q: Does crash dieting cause hair loss?
A: Crash diets and caloric deprivation of less than 1,000 calories per day or sudden weight loss of more than 20 pounds have been reported to be associated with hair loss. The evidence of hair shedding can be noticed one month after the diet begins.

Q: Is my medical condition contributing to my hair loss?
A: Although there are many causes of hair loss; in general if you are in good health you will have healthier hair, and if you are in poor physical and mental condition (such as illness, stress and malnutrition) your hair and scalp will show it. Treating the underlying medical condition with proper relaxation, good nutrition and proper hair care are the key factors for maintaining a healthy scalp and hair.

Q: Can grey hair be transplanted?
A: The answer is yes. Grey hair can be transplanted as safely and successfully as hair of any color. Transplantation of grey hair is will grow in the same color grey but it will be grow normally.

hairline lowering, design and planning

Some consider hair to be the most aesthetic part of the face. As such when ones' #hair starts to thin and #hairline recedes it can have a profound effect on a face. The hairline is where the scalp hair borders the forehead and frames the face, thereby bringing out the the beauty and richness of one's facial features. When the hairline starts to recede the facial features also recede into the background. One of the primary reasons to seek #hairtransplants is to restore the appearance to the condition before hair loss recedes.

One of the critical decisions in #hairrestoration is determining where your new hairline should be placed. This should be discussed with your hair transplant doctor in detailed and be planned out before the procedure. The best hairline recreated by #hair transplant is one that is natural and blends with other facial features. The hair transplant specialist should take into account many factors. These include: facial contour, ethnicity, gender, age, hair characteristics, type of donor hair selected and patient's desires and expectations.

An experienced hair transplant surgeon should discuss the hair line placement with the client ahead of the surgery. The surgeon should follow several cosmetic rules to design the hair line. The overall technique, size of the incisions in the recipient area, selection and distribution of the grafts should be planned out to address all the above factors to ensure a natural result. The widows peak, correct flaring, forelock creation, random pattern, natural orientation, combination incisions are all important for establishing aesthetically pleasing hairline.

What to expect during and after hair transplant procedure?

Hair transplantation is a very safe, and relatively minor surgical procedure. Hair transplant is an outpatient procedure which is usually performed under local anesthesia while the patient is watching T.V, listening to music or sleeping. If the procedure is done by an experienced hair restoration physician, there will be minimal discomfort and rarely any complications.

On the day of the surgery, the doctor will spend time reviewing the procedure and addressing any concerns or questions. After all the necessary measurements are taken, the physician will evaluate the hair quality and quantity for the transplantation. It is critical to plan the harvesting of the grafts from the donor area and the design of the recipient area. Following these standard procedures, the physician will proceed with the surgery.

Hair restoration surgery first involves the removal or harvesting the hair from the donor area. Following the removal of the donor hair, the harvested hair is dissected into 1-3 hair units under high powered microscopes. As the units are being prepared, the physician will make small incisions into the recipient area using customized needles. The possibility of future hair loss has to be considered and lateral incisions should be made following clients own hair directions and hair orientation. Once the incisions are made, follicular units are implanted into the recipient areas. At the end of the procedure, a light dressing may be applied which can be removed the next day.

Following the procedure, one can expect to have small crusts formed on the grafted area. A post operative cleaning regiment is given to the client to help dissolve the scabs. These crusts will flake off by 7-10 days after the surgery. The client can usually return to normal activity in about two weeks. The transplanted hair growing from the scalp may initially shed, however the roots will remain and new hair will start to grow in after three months.

What are the possible causes of hair loss in women?

What are the possible causes of hair loss in women?

Hair loss patterns in women are typically different from those in men. Hair loss in women tends to be more diffuse than hair loss in men. The most characteristic female pattern is diffuse thinning over an area of the scalp, or over the central area of the scalp. There are different cause for thinning in women one of most common is the Androgenic Alopecia.

In general, there are three patterns of hair loss in female androgenic alopecia. One is thinning in the central scalp, the other is hair loss in the front of the scalp and also patches in overall mid-scalp area. However, although androgenic alopecia is a frequent cause of hair loss in women, it is one of number of causes to be considered.

Conditions other than androgenic alopecia that are frequent causes of hair loss in women include hormonal changes that may be associated with menopause, hypo or hyperthyroidism, and polycystic overian syndrome. Hair loss associated with these conditions can be halted or reversed if it is adequately diagnosed and treated. Also unexplained localized or generalized patches of hair loss may also be due to a condition such as Alopeica Areata and Alopecia Totalis that require proper medical attention and diagnosis.

Other causes of hair loss in women that are not genetic or related to a medical condition may be as a result of hair breakage. Common causes of hair breakage include over treatment with hair straighteners, relaxers, permanent waving and frequent dyeing. In addition hair styling that features corn rowing or tight braiding can result in the condition called traction hair loss. Constant traction on hair follicles can damage the hair and cause permanent hair loss.

Proper diagnosis of hair loss in women is the key for treatment options. If unusual hair loss begins and it continues, consultation with a physician or hair restoration specialist should be considered. During the consultation, the doctor can determine both the cause of hair loss and th best approach for treatment. Hair transplantation can be one of treatment options for female pattern hair loss. Both the patient and the physician should be confident of the cause of hair loss before hair transplantation is considered.
